Mid 40s used to be a Fundamentalist Catholic and grew up in a cult call "The People of Hope" in NJ during the 70-80s which still exists but has been marginalized by the Catholic Church and is now much smaller. My deconversion story is similar to Matt's and Seth Andrew's (The Thinking Atheist) as I had been a very serious Christian well into adulthood. Continued to search for unsatisfying answers which brought me in and out of groups like "Opus Dei", thankfully discovered a completely different answer due to Christopher Hitchens and the internet. Although the Priest scandal was nearly enough to oust me anyway.
