Talk:Thou shalt not make thee any graven image
The context of these verses concerns the israelites who had a history of idolatry, killing prophets and taking up following new gods.
They're not overly relevant to any of the "Counter-apologetics" arguments and to present generations, catholics, or anyone who makes a Jesus statue :)

- Unfortunately, the way people read holy books, they're usually not understood as "Oh, this is what happened to one particular group of people at a specific moment in time". Rather, they tend to be interpreted as "This is an eternal commandment from God." Especially in a section called "The Ten Commandments" (aka God's Top Ten List of Rules).
- At any rate, as written (which may be different from what was intended, or may be a mistranslation, but that's a separate issue), the first two versions of the 2nd commandment do prohibit drawing pictures of fish. --Arensb 11:39, 4 October 2008 (CDT)
