The term secular has taken on a variety of meanings over the years. It is mainly used to denote distance from, or lack of, religion.
At a secular event, one is expected to "leave religion at the door". One is not asked to change their beliefs, but rather to restrain themselves from presenting their beliefs.
Secular does not imply atheism.
