John the Evangelist, also known as John the Apostle and Saint John, is traditionally thought to be the author of the Gospel of John and the three Epistles of John. He is also traditionally thought to be John of Patmos, the author of the Book of Revelation.
The association between John the Evangelist, John of Patmos, and John the Apostle, along with the authorship of the five books attributed to him, has been a subject of controversy between New Testament scholars since the third century. [1]
