Iron Chariots Wiki:Sign your comments
Please remember to sign your comments on talk pages by using four tildes:
When you preview or save your edits, the tildes are "expanded" into your username (linked to your user page) and the current time and date. For example:
- dcljr 02:22, 7 September 2006 (CDT)
Do not sign any of your contributions to articles in the "main" namespace.
Signing vs. "anonymity"
Signing your comments on talk pages helps other users follow the flow of the discussion. If you haven't logged in or registered to get a username, your computer's IP address is used instead (linked to a list of edits made from that address), in which case you and your edits are known as "anonymous" in wiki lingo. Of course, if your computer has a static (unchanging) IP address then you're not really anonymous, since your edits can easily be traced back to the computer they were made from.
Attempting to keep your IP address hidden by not signing your comments is futile because this information will appear in the page's edit history, anyway. The only sure way to prevent your IP address from being made public is to register and always log in before editing. (Note that this entire wiki is "semi-protected", so only logged-in users can edit, anyway.)
