Humanism (capital H) is the set of philosophical beliefs that promote universal ethical principles based on rational thought and the commonality of human nature. While the modern usage of the word "humanism" usually refers to secular humanism, the term can be very broadly used and includes many varieties of religious humanism.
In the philosophical sense from which the term derives, humanism is the moral stance that human beings are the central source of moral worth.
