Gentile is a term used in the Bible to refer to any non-Jew. Since the advent of the King James Bible in the 17th century, "Gentile", in western societies, is generally considered synonymous with "Christian".

The original hebrew words "goyim" and "nochri" are variously translated as gentile, nation, people, or heathen.
