Bright is an umbrella term for atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, or anyone else with a naturalistic worldview. Its proponents hope to use the term "bright" in much the same way as the gay community has appropriated the word "gay".
Definition
The word "bright", in this context, is a noun. Thus, one should say "I am a bright", not "I am bright". The Brights' Net site defines a bright as:
- A bright is a person who has a naturalistic worldview
- A bright's worldview is free of supernatural and mystical elements
- The ethics and actions of a bright are based on a naturalistic worldview
Antonym
The brights recently voted on a term for their use when referring to non-brights. The term adopted is "Super," as in Supernaturalist. The term was chosen as an antonym which would not convey the meaning of "not bright." Very few would object to being called "Super."
