The Big Crunch is a theory that the universe, while presently expanding, will eventually stop expanding and begin to collapse inward upon itself. This theory has been largely abandoned in modern cosmology, as recvent discoveries make it appear that the universe is actually accelerating in its expansion (see Wikipedia:Ultimate fate of the universe).
